Elections

It was 10PM in the night. April that year was unusually hot and the night was balmy. The air was filled with tension as the members of the association gathered. It was an important day that day. There were lot of issues to be discussed. Election was due on the 19th of April. The local election was coinciding with the general election as well. Lot of members were speculating on who would be their candidate for the local elections

Ramu was sweating. The heat gave him no respite at all. To top, he saw more Julie's supporters than his that day in the gathering. It showed when Kalia had asked something to Ramu and only got a steely stare in return. Kalia had to retreat back.

Julie and her supporters were feeling happy. Julie's clout ensured that all her supporters were present in the meeting. She glanced a quick sideways glance at Ramu, who was almost growling upon Kalia. Bhowmick the president was expected today. He would make the announcement of the candidate for the election. The tension was palpable in the gathering. They even did not notice the lone rider going through the area back to his home.

Presently Bhowmick the president and Grovel the secretary arrived. The members greeted the president and the secretary.

Bhowmick was grim. The face showed the tension that was there due to the election process. He paid no heed to Ramu nor Julie. There was a call to order and a hush descended at the gathering. Bhowmick howled at Grovel to start the meeting. Grovel was taken aback, he had never seen Bhowmick so angry. He briefly barked the name of the candidate and all hell broke loose.

Julie was beaten by Ramu to be the candidate. Ramu was ecstatic. His handful of supporters barked mad at Julie and her supporters. There was a lot of howling and growling and this disturbed the peace of the layout.

Presently Mr. David came out and threw some stones at Bhowmick and Grovel. One of the stones hit Grovel and he yelped. Mrs. David asked her husband what the commotion was. "Not sure what is the matter, the howling of the strays have gone up recent days". "There is General election on April 19th and these dogs behave no different from my party workers" said Mr. David. "Maybe they also are organizing an election" said Mrs. David trying to chide her husband. "Please lock the gate and come in, you only are worried about Mrs. Rathnam your opposite number who got selected to be the counsellor candidate of this area". "Maybe you need to be more charming like Mrs. Rathnam". Saying this she went it and left her husband Mr. David to do the locking of the gate.

Julie wondered where she went wrong. "Maybe I will go near Mrs. Rathnam's house and see what she did to win over Mr. David and secure the party's candidature" so thought Julie as she trotted off. Her supporters moved away trying to smell the colony rats out to play. For them tomorrow was again a dog's day irrespective of who won the candidature.
